Last week on 26 June, The Forshaw Group acknowledged The Armed Forces Week, on Reserves’ Day. As an Armed Forces Covenant Gold award holder, we celebrated the Armed Forces Week with a visit from the Royal Marines Association. Armed Forces Week is a chance to show support for the men and women who make up the armed forces community: from currently serving troops to service families, veterans, and cadets.
Our familiar Royal Marines veteran Ian ‘Wooley’ Wooldridge joined us to discuss previous team events and days doing activities that we have done with the armed forces. Our INS-Pire academy and apprentices have taken part in a number of days supervised by former Royal Marine Commanders from our collaboration with the Armed Forces Covenant, including abseiling and coasteering. The team is looking forward to the opportunity to go coasteering again.
Armed Forces Week is a national event, which this year took place from 24-29 June. Reservists give up their spare time to serve in the Reserve Forces. On Reserves Day, Reservists wear their uniform in their civilian life. The Armed Forces Covenant asked all businesses to hold workplace talks, organise events or just publicly show support to celebrate the armed forces. This is something we are always keen to do here at The Forshaw Group.
As part of the day, our managing director Liam Hanlon talked about the company’s historic link to the armed forces and the importance of recognising the contribution of all those who paid the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom.
Liam Hanlon said about the day, “We will continue to promote, support, and collaborate with all the military services to improve leadership and management within the business, whilst fulfilling and important role for the armed forces charity and community”.
In 2022, The Forshaw Group was awarded the Armed Forces Gold Covenant. This award recognises The Forshaw Group’s commitment to supporting the Armed Forces Covenant and community. The company provides new career opportunities and has supportive HR policies in place for serving and former members of the armed forces community. The company also advocates the benefits of supporting reservists, veterans, Cadet Force adult volunteers, as well as spouses and partners of those serving in the armed forces, by encouraging other businesses to sign the Armed Forces Covenant and engage in the Employer Recognition Scheme.
