Here’s some of the latest charity and business news from The Forshaw Group for February 2025:
Building connections at the Knowsley Construction Forum
Our operations director, John-Joseph Calvert, was pleased to attend the Knowsley Construction Forum on Thursday 13 February.
Held at Knowsley Community College, the day was designed to bring together businesses from the construction and development sectors across Knowsley, in order to develop, promote and create opportunities to improve skills and increase employment throughout the region.
Discussions were held around local skills improvement plans, such as the opportunity for apprenticeships, alongside what the college has to offer by way of supporting the next generation of skilled workers.
This includes a new course on offer by the college, Maintenance Operative, whereby students are trained to complete a number of remedial works (including joinery, plastering, decorating, tiling, etc.) to support businesses which don’t specialise in any given discipline but still provide these trades, such as in social housing repairs. Local expertise, local labour, and local suppliers will play a key role in delivering projects across the region.
Awareness was also raised around Environment, Social & Governance (ESG), which was of keen interest to John-Joseph, as one of our ESG Champions, for Training and Development.
The attendees were then given a tour around the college campus. John-Joseph commented, “It was great to walk through the vibrant, busy teaching areas – the students looked engaged and focused on their tasks at hand.”
Steering in the right direction
Our managing director, Liam Hanlon, was invited in his role as Deputy Lieutenant to join The Draken Project steering group on Friday 14 February 2025 at the Mayor’s Parlour, Wallasey Town Hall.
Liam had previously attended the Mayoral Tourism Event meeting at Birkenhead Town Hall on Thursday 23 January, to discuss the proposal to build an iconic Viking ship as a landmark on Wirral’s coastline, due to the Viking heritage and the Viking links to Wirral. The Viking ship’s design, construction, size and cost were considered at this meeting, as well as sponsorship and investment opportunities.
We can’t wait to reveal more about this exciting Draken project!
TFG and Tri-4-Life honoured with charity donations
Our managing director Liam Hanlon was also pleased to attend the West Derby Rotary Club Presentation Dinner Event on Saturday 15 February 2025, with teammates from the Tri-4-Life team, to receive a cheque for their charities from the Christmas Community Collections.
Liam said, “This is the 22d consecutive year that Tri-4-Life has been on the streets at Christmas collecting with West Derby Rotary Club. It is so joyful to experience the sense of community the West Derby Rotary Club creates, and then to witness the distribution of the funds to all the local charities it supports.”
Thanks to the community’s incredible generosity, the West Derby Rotary Club collected over £7,000 from its Christmas collections, allowing it to give back to local charities in meaningful ways.
Helping to ‘Give Peace a Chance’
Our managing director, Liam Hanlon, was delighted to join Tim Quinn and Robin Baynes from Liverpool Heartbeat, to celebrate the international children’s art exhibition ‘Give Peace a Chance’.
Speaking of the exhibition, held at the Beatles Museum in Matthew Street Liverpool on Thursday 20 February, Liam said, “it was wonderful to attend such a poignant event, given what is going on in the world, and as the children’s artwork so beautifully describes, let’s give peace a chance!”
Looking to the future
Our managing director Liam Hanlon and our operations director John-Joseph Calvert were pleased to attend the Knowsley Schools Apprenticeship Partnership 2025 Launch meeting at All Saints High School.
Hosted by the school’s Head of Career Services, Alex Hay, on Monday 24 February 2025, the presentation to fifty students marked the start of an exciting apprenticeship opportunity journey for the students.
The Forshaw Group’s ongoing partnership with All Saints Catholic High School provides meaningful employment, social mobility, and much needed skills within the construction sector, and has helped support numerous students on their career journey.
Working Well with Knowsley Chamber
On Thursday 27 February, two of our Wellbeing Champions, Ashleigh O’Callaghan and Kimberley Meadows, were delighted to attend a Working Well Marketplace and networking event.
Hosted by the Knowsley Chamber of Commerce at the Village Hotel, Liverpool, the aim of the event was to showcase how Working Well can support businesses, with working well grants and support to assist organisations or individuals when required.
With presentations from Shakespeare North Playhouse and Strawberry Fields, this was also Knowsley Chamber’s largest networking event on its calendar.
