Recently honoured with a King’s Award for Enterprise in the ‘Promoting Opportunity’ category, The Forshaw Group is proud to support an exciting new initiative that has the potential to make a lasting difference to the Armed Forces community.
A dedicated retreat
Northwest Reserve Forces’ and Cadets’ Association (NW RFCA) recently hosted a meeting to discuss new plans to provide glamping pods for veterans at Altcar training camp. The vision is to establish a dedicated place for veterans and families to reconnect, recover and recharge. The ambition is to create the North West’s leading veteran-led outdoor wellbeing retreat – a place where veterans and their families can enjoy quality time together, benefit from peer support, improve wellbeing through nature, and rebuild confidence within a supportive military community.
Supporting those who serve
Managing director of The Forshaw Group, Liam Hanlon, was honoured to be invited to join this meeting. Liam, a former Royal Marines Reservist, is an active member of the Royal Marines Association and the Special Boat Service Association. This connection has ensured that The Forshaw Group is committed to employing and supporting those who serve, veterans and their families, and the company has also become an advocate for others across the UK. This has earned The Forshaw Group Gold status with the Armed Forces Covenant, a nationally recognised scheme encouraging employers to support defence services and inspire others to do the same.
Discussions with NW RFCA also focused on developing a veteran-led management group to oversee the future operation of the proposed project, as well as volunteer management group responsible for governance, finance, health and safety, safeguarding, marketing, volunteer coordination and the long-term development of the project.
Speaking of the company’s involvement with the initiative, Liam Hanlon, managing director of The Forshaw Group, said: “Projects like this demonstrate the incredible power of veterans supporting veterans. By combining outdoor wellbeing, peer support and practical volunteering, we can create something that delivers lasting social impact for those who have served and their families.
“We are delighted to support the development of this initiative and look forward to seeing it become a flagship veteran wellbeing facility for the North West.”
