Our managing director Liam Hanlon was invited to attend The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo last week, which takes place on the Edinburgh Castle Esplanade and is an annual event. The invite to the event was in recognition of The Forshaw Group’s gold award status with the Armed Forces Covenant.
The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo dates back to 1949. A military tattoo is a military performance, which has become famous worldwide. It’s a spectacular event including bagpipes, dancing to marching and drums, cultural bands and displays featuring music, projections, and fireworks. The event concludes with a march down the Royal Mile, which runs through the heart of Edinburgh’s Old Town.
Liam Hanlon said about the military tattoo: “It’s a privilege to be invited to be part of the Northwest Reserve Forces and Cadets Association (NWRFCA) contingent. It’s always been on my bucket list to attend this amazing event, so to be invited to as part of our ongoing commitment to the Armed Forces Covenant is very special.”
The Forshaw Group was awarded gold Armed Forces Covenant Award status last year. The Forshaw Group is one of 23 North West businesses, and one of 156 organisations nationally, to be awarded this. The Armed Forces Covenant is now in its ninth year, showing the growth of supportive employees across the UK.
Part of the Ministry of Defence’s Employer Recognition Scheme (ERS), this nationally recognised scheme encourages employers to support defence services and inspire others to do the same. It operates a three-tier approach to bronze, silver and gold awards, recognising different levels of commitment provided by employers. The gold award recognises businesses, which not only employ and support those who serve, veterans and their families, but has become an advocate to others across the UK. This scheme allows the Ministry of Defence to publicly thank and honour those organisations for their support towards the Armed Forces community.
