The Forshaw Group’s managing director Liam Hanlon and chief executive of Knowsley Chamber of Commerce, Lesley Martin Wright visited the Military Preparation College for Training (MPCT) last week. Also in attendance was retired warrant officer one (WO1) Janice Cox QVRM VR RNR, who is the organisation’s regional employer engagement director (Merseyside & Isle of Man). The visit was to experience what the Liverpool-based college has to offer, including the activities the students undertake as part of the training.
The Military Preparation College is a unique training college that helps 16+ year olds develop their fitness, vocational qualifications, and employability skills to help prepare for employment, including rewarding careers in the British Armed Forces.
During the visit, the visitors watched the students undertake their weekly physical assessment test. This included shuttle running in time with the bleep test, press ups and sit ups. Their scores were then used to determine their level of fitness, based against the services’ acceptance criteria.
The Forshaw Group holds a Gold award with the Armed Forces Covenant, and the MPCT event and the college’s ethos is well aligned to the core values of the company. Liam was invited to speak with some of the students about their future aspirations. It was also an opportunity to discuss the company’s well-established apprenticeships, which provide an alternative route to students who might ultimately decide not to progress to military service.
