In 2023, our managing director, Liam Hanlon, was elected as the new chair for the Subsidence Forum.
The Subsidence Forum comprises different industry sectors that work across subsidence (the downward movement of the site on which a building stands), and is open to any organisation or individual involved with insured subsidence risk.
The aim of the forum is to identify the fundamental issues that are common to all and develop a constructive way forward, with members sharing understanding, working together to solve problems, advancing standards and practice, and enhancing the effectiveness and profile of the industry to the benefit of all.
Site visits
Since the start of his new position, Liam has undertaken 14 visits to different members of the Subsidence Forum, and will soon conduct visits to another five companies.
Speaking of the importance of these visits, Liam says, “As the chairman, this is my chance to really get to know the businesses who are our members, to find out who they are and what they do, learning about the services they offer. This is so that, if the Subsidence Forum is contacted by members of the public, we can point them in the right direction as to which member can help them with their query.
“This is also an opportunity for members to consider succession planning, how to entice the next generation and bring them on board to ensure the continuation of these skills and knowledge.”
Subsidence Forum Training Day Planning Meeting
As chair, Liam Hanlon also recently attended a planning meeting for the Subsidence Forum Training Day.
Along with other members of the executive committee, the meeting was held to confirm the exciting activities for the planned Subsidence Forum Training Day on Thursday 3 October at Mythe Barn in Atherstone, Leicestershire.
Exclusively for members of the Subsidence Forum, there will be six demonstrations from a broad range of suppliers, as well as a trade exhibition to learn about the products, services, and technologies available with the sector, such as structural repairs, ground injection, drainage, site investigation, carbon and sustainability, and more.
There will also be 10 free places available for new apprentices, or those in training new to the sector, to attend the day.
The Training Day held last year was a sold-out event, and as places are limited, booking early is essential.
