Last week, starting on Thursday 27 July 2023, a team of about 50 people, including swimmers, cyclists and runners, took on the Paul Lavelle Foundation (PLF) and Tri4Life’s 3×3 Tri Challenge 2023, raising almost £3500 for the Paul Lavelle Foundation.
The challenge
The event encompassed challenges in Scotland, England and Wales. Starting from Fort William, the first phase included a 10-mile swim in Loch Lomond, a 252-mile bike ride ending in Windermere and a run/walk up Ben Nevis. Day two started from Windermere, with the swim team completing another 10-mile swim in Lake Windermere, the cycle team leaving Windermere to finish in Eryri (Snowdonia – 196 miles) and the run/walk team tackling Scafell Pike. The third day of the challenge was the Welsh element, with a shorter swim for the team at Llyn Padarn, a shorter but brutal 31-mile loop for the cycling team and a 10 km run in the morning for the run/walk team, before all the participants summitted Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon).
Thanks to our volunteers
Commented Liam Hanlon, managing director at The Forshaw Group and one of the founding members of Tri4Life: “The Tri4Life team always enjoy challenging themselves and the 3×3 Tri Challenge did just that. With around 50 people taking part, one of the biggest challenges was the logistics. We needed to make sure everyone was where they were meant to be and there was food and a place to sleep. Our volunteers helped make sure the event went off without any major hitches and the group climb up Yr Wyddfa was a great way to bring everyone together and finish the event.
“I was delighted to represent The Forshaw Group. As a company, we raise lots of money for different charities throughout the year, but the Paul Lavelle Foundation is one close to many of our hearts.”
The Paul Lavelle Foundation
The PLF provides therapeutic support for males experiencing domestic abuse. It runs Healthy Relationship Education workshops in Wirral schools and colleges, educating children and young people on how to maintain healthy relationships, spot signs of abuse and how – and – where to seek help. The foundation provides support for young people aged 10 – 17 years who have been impacted by domestic abuse in the family environment. It also encourages all-inclusive community health and wellbeing activity groups in the form of swimming, cycling, running and walking.
