21 April
The team pushed on up to the start of the Lhotse face at 6,800m. The rope fixing team also began creating the route to Camp three.
22 April
The team arrived back down at base camp, having spent one night at Camp one and two nights at Camp two (6,540m).
24 April
The Sherpa team moved more equipment and oxygen to Camp two, as well as securing places for the team’s tents at Camp three.
27 April
The team were situated at Camp two (6,540m) on their second rotation of acclimatisation, with the plan to climb up to Camp three the next day at over 7,300m on the Lhotse Face. This was to be their final climb before returning to base camp to rest and recuperate, in readiness for their final bid for the summit.
The team reported that life at Camp two was exceptionally hot. Hard to believe considering their altitude, but the sun reflected off the snow to create intense heat in the confined valley.
1 May
The team spent the night at Camp three, providing them with vital acclimatisation time, as well as the strong psychological gain that the difficult stage of having climbed the steep Lhotse face had successfully been done.
2 May
The team arrived back to base camp for a well-deserved rest, whilst they waited for the rope fixing team to complete the difficult task of getting the route open to the summit.
This time spent at base camp was important for the team, to enable them to regain their strength in readiness for their summit bid. The Sherpa team continued to ferry oxygen and other supplies up to the higher camps too.
6 May
Everything was packed, checked, and the team were all set and ready to go! They had an early breakfast at 2am (UK time), and they then headed back up through the Khumbu ice fall, retracing their steps to Camp one.
9 May
The team moved up to Camp two and rested there to prepare themselves, ready to make their summit attempt when the opportunity presented itself. This was based on the weather, and for safety, the team wouldn’t continue until the forecast was favourable.
10 May
Luckily, the conditions were good and the team moved up to Camp three (around 7,300m) and were very happy with their progress. They spent the rest of the day fuelling themselves ready for the next step of their journey.
11 May
11am (UK time)
The team moved up to Camp four at the South Col (around 8,000m) which took just over five hours. The team planned to depart for the summit later that evening. In the meantime they rested, and ate and drank as much as possible ready for the climb.
11 May
5pm (UK time)
The team set off on their summit bid. They headed up by the balcony to the South Summit at about 8,690m. From there the next landmark was the Hillary Step, before finally pushing up the snow slope to the Summit.
12 May

A huge thank you also to the fantastic sherpa team: Phurba Wangchhu, Norbu Sherpa, Fu Rinzee Sherpa, Pem Gelze Sherpa, Bir bahadur Tamang (Bire) and Phursemba Sherpa.
Liam Hanlon commented: “They are the real heroes of Everest. We wouldn’t have made it without their help!”
12 May
8:50am (UK time)
After their successful summit, a very happy team returned to the South Col camp, where the team rested that night, before continuing their final descent over the next few days.
17 May
The team made their way back to base camp, before heading to their starting point at Kathmandu, ready for celebrations with their friends and family on their return to the UK.
This was a truly fantastic achievement, and we have been pleased to welcome Liam back safely to our TFG HQ.
