Here at The Forshaw Group, we invest a lot of time into supporting students interested in pursuing a career in the construction industry and providing apprenticeships to make this dream a reality.
As National Apprenticeship Week 2025 takes place this week (February 10 – 16), with the theme of ‘Skills for Life’, it’s fitting for us to promote the way we support our apprentices and encourage pupils from local schools through our INS-Pire Academy and our partnership with Knowsley Apprenticeship Partnership Scheme.
Skills for life
In collaboration with local and national businesses, The Knowsley Apprenticeship Partnership and our INS-Pire Academy have been instrumental in providing over 100 apprenticeship roles across Knowsley, including opportunities within plumbing, plastering, painting, joinery, electrician work and administration.
The Forshaw Group is committed to sharing its success and trade skills with the next generation. It is therefore helping to bring about positive change and bridge the increasing skills gap found in our industry. It has done so to great success since it started.
Supporting the future
This year, The Forshaw Group will be welcoming eight new students for work experience from Kirkby High School in Kirkby, Liverpool. This is with the aim of helping to showcase jobs for the pupils in the industry for once they leave school. We look forward to welcoming our new recruits for their work experience.
On 3 February our managing director, Liam Hanlon, attended an open day at All Saints Secondary School, in Kirkby, Liverpool. This was to generate an interest from pupils in joining our team as apprentices.
To apply for an apprenticeship at The Forshaw Group, interested students are required to submit their curriculum vitae and personal statements with their predicted grades and interests. The students selected from the first stage of the process will be invited to our HQ for interviews and skills testing. There will then be an opportunity for a week’s work experience, and then the successful candidates will start their apprenticeships later this year.
Then and now
Liam Hanlon, managing director at The Forshaw Group, joined the construction industry in 1984 on a Youth Training Scheme Apprenticeship with the Construction Industry Training Board. Liam remains passionate about supporting young people into skills training and apprenticeships through the INS-Pire Academy. This is designed to help train young people into skilled trades, including building, restoration and renovation, engineering, decorating and loss adjusting. It is hoped it will also help address the looming skill shortage in the industry.
Liam stated: “I’m very proud to once again be supporting students with Kirkby High School and providing the apprenticeship programme with All Saints School. It’s exciting to see how far we have come with our scheme.
“Recognised by the Chartered Institute of Builders (CIOB), the British Damage Management Association (BDMA) and other leading institutes, our Apprentice Training Centre shows a commitment to young people and future generations, to provide the skills required for our business and the industry we serve. It’s the ideal opportunity to raise the profile of the construction industry to young people and show them how to get involved. We look forward to welcoming students for the next stage of their journey with us and I’m excited to see how our new apprentices progress this year.”
Keep posted for future updates on the successful candidates.
