Members of Wallasey Amateur Boxing Club (ABC) were joined by local dignitaries, community, family and friends on Sunday 19 January at 10 am to witness the groundbreaking ceremony for the club’s new building.
Local support
One of the many supporters of the new club, is local house builder, Persimmons, which, as part of its commitment to the local community, has already provided extensive support in terms of drawings and plans, initial engineering work and the security fencing, which will ring the site to ensure health and safety throughout the build.
Ian Hilliker, Managing Director at Persimmon North West, commented: “I am happy we could support Wallasey Amateur Boxing Club with some materials as it embarks on its exciting project to build a new community centre. I wish all involved the very best and am sure it will have a positive impact on local people.”
A groundbreaking event
The event on Sunday was an opportunity to not only thank everyone who has supported the project so far and mark the start of the next stage in the construction of the new club building, but also to explain and demonstrate the role that the club has, through short presentations and sparring demonstrations.
Our managing director Liam Hanlon is also the Wallasey ABC chairman. He commented: “It has been a long process to get to this point, but I am delighted we broke ground on Sunday. The new club, with its modern facilities will ensure that Wallasey ABC remains relevant and able to provide the local community with a place to go to learn a fantastic sport.
“We are a charity and as such, the development of the new club will be funded on donations and support from the local community. While it is a huge achievement to break ground, we still have a long way to go and are on the lookout for additional support.”
