World Mental Health Day is celebrated every year on 10 October. This year’s theme, set by the World Federation of Mental Health, focused on workplace mental health. The aim was to highlight the importance of addressing mental health and wellbeing in the workplace, for the benefit of people, organisations, and communities.
Poor mental health at work
The Mental Health Foundation reports that an estimated 15% of UK workers already have an existing mental health condition, 875,000 workers suffer from work-related stress, anxiety or depression, and the fifth most common reason for sickness absence in 2022 was due to poor mental health.
Working Well to improve mental health
At The Forshaw Group, we are extremely supportive of our team’s mental health, and endeavor to recognise the importance of mental health issues and ensure the wellbeing of our team. We achieve this by providing staff training on mental health and supporting open conversations, to reduce stigma around mental health in the workplace.
Several members of our team have been awarded the Gold Standard Working Well. Provided by Knowsley Chamber of Commerce, the Gold Standard award has been given to individuals since 2011 who make a difference for positive mental health at work. The aim of Working Well is to support local businesses to provide health and wellbeing assistance, to improve the welfare of the borough’s workforce. This is attained through activities and programmes around mental health support and physical health, and also looking at the working environment and culture in place.
How we help
The Forshaw Group offers a number of resources, available for our staff if they ever need any help, raising issues to make conversations easier for those who find conditions such as anxiety a challenge.
Speaking of World Mental Health Day, our managing director, Liam Hanlon said, “It’s important to us at The Forshaw Group to ensure the health and wellbeing of our team. Talking about our mental health can help us cope better with life’s ups and downs, and it’s essential that our workplace supports mental health, not just on World Mental Health Day, but everyday, and show that everyone matters.”
