At The Forshaw Group, we are proud to support many varying causes and events for the good of the community.
We’ve provided a roundup of some of our recent charitable activities:
LV Treasure Hunt
On Wednesday 9 July our managing director, Liam Hanlon, and his team comprising of Curtis Price, Joe Chellew, JJ Calvert, and Finlay Haig attended the recent LV annual Treasure Hunt in Birmingham city centre. The event was held to help raise funds for the charity Family Action.
Family Action transforms lives by providing practical, emotional, and financial support to those who are experiencing poverty, disadvantage, and social isolation across the country.
Our team finished joint second in the event that saw over 30 teams trawling around the various landmarks of Birmingham, collecting points in a fun and imaginative way. Well done team TFG!
Doug Scott memorial garden party
Following Liam Hanlon and the Tri-4-Life’s recent successful ascent and summit of Mount Everest, the team were invited to the Doug Scott memorial garden party at his home in Keswick, Cumbria on Sunday 3 July.
The event celebrated the life of the late Doug Scott CBE, an English mountaineer who was part of the team that made the first ascent of the south-west face of Mount Everest on 24 September 1975, and also raised funds for Community Action Nepal.
Community Action Nepal is a UK charity that works with some of the most remote mountain communities in the Nepalese Himalaya, delivering life-changing education, healthcare, agriculture, and livelihood programmes. The charity works in partnership with these communities to help raise standards of living whilst strengthening and protecting indigenous cultures and traditions.
Books and memorabilia from Doug’s collection were sold to support the work of this worthwhile charity.
Veteran’s golf event
Liam Hanlon recently supported the On Course to the Open golf charity event, a veteran-led challenge that involves a team made up of OCF beneficiaries carrying a golf pin flag from Royal St George’s Golf Club in Kent, the venue of the 149th Open Championship, to the Old Course at St Andrews in Fife, Scotland, venue of the 150th Open Championship.
This was in the form of a relay using non-motorised means – walking, running, cycling, rowing, and swimming. The route incorporated all mainland UK golf clubs to have hosted the Open Championship since its creation in 1860, with a distance of 1,453km.
Liam provided boat support and safety cover for swimmer Kate Surman, who linked the Liverpool and Wirral leg by swimming across the River Mersey.
Held from 27 June to 13 July, the challenge took around two weeks to complete, and has so far raised £20,000, with donations being accepted through the event’s JustGiving page.
ASUC awards
Liam Hanlon was also invited as a guest to the ASUC Awards at the Painters Hall in London on Thursday 30 June. This was not only to highlight the success of ASUC’s member companies, but also to celebrate best practice in the industry. This aims to ensure high standards of workmanship and the continuing development of the workforce through training.
Brett Jones 10K fun Run
Organised by Tri-4-Life, the 9th Brett Jones Memorial 10K Fun Run took place along the Hoylake Sea front on Saturday 9 July 2022. Family and friends turned up to cheer on TFG participants Liam Hanlon, Richard Caffrey, Michelle Reagan, Laura Williams, Julie Bird and Luke Allan, and enjoy the sunshine along the scenic 10k fun run of this incredibly special event.
Brett was a Wirral-born boxer who excelled at county level and coached hundreds of children and young people throughout his life. After a short battle with pancreatic cancer, Brett tragically passed away in February 2014, aged just fifty-six.
All proceeds raised from the run, each and every year, are therefore donated to the Pancreatic Cancer Research Fund, the only national charity fighting pancreatic cancer (providing support, information, campaigning, and research), and Wallasey Amateur Boxing Club, of which Brett was a member. When he retired from competing, he spent his time coaching dozens of young people in the sport.
Liam Hanlon, event organiser for Tri-4-Life said: “We were pleased to see the event taking place again for the ninth year running.”
Terry Finlay, secretary of Wallasey Amateur Boxing Club, said: “From the outset we wanted to make it an annual event. We are hoping we can match the money we raise year on year. Brett did an awful lot for people, and he was such a lovely person. He was a caring friend to everyone around him.”
All the runners received a commemorative t-shirt, and trophies were presented to the first man and woman to finish.
