It was back in July, when The Forshaw Group welcomed five fresh-faced new students from All Saints Catholic School in Kirkby onto its apprenticeship scheme. This followed the students completing a weeks’ worth of work experience in June. This week, all five of the boys completed their three-month probation period.
To congratulate our apprenticeships, they were each issued with trade-specific tools. Well done to tiler, Devon Menddings, decorator, Nathan Keegan, plasterer, Joe Lackey, joiner, Elliot Carr and bricklayer, Ellis Keegan.
At The Forshaw Group, we support and invest a lot of time in our new apprentices. It’s an opportunity to raise the profile of the construction industry to young people and show them how to get involved. In January this year 35 students registered an interest in joining the team on apprenticeships. Each student submitted their curriculum vitae (CV) and personal statements, with their predicted grades and interests. The students selected from this first stage of the process were invited to attend The Forshaw Group for interviews and skills testing.
The INS-Pire Academy is designed to help train young people into skilled trades, including building, restoration and renovation, engineering, decorating and loss adjusting. The Forshaw Group is focused on giving back to the community and it is hoped by offering apprenticeship schemes to the local schools, it will provide training opportunities to help address the looming skills shortage within the construction industry.
Liam Hanlon, managing director at The Forshaw Group, joined the construction industry in 1984 on a Youth Training Scheme Apprenticeship with the Construction Industry Training Board. He remains passionate about supporting young people in skills training and apprenticeships. Liam said: “It’s a great start for the boys and it’s nice to see they are committed and working hard. I want to wish them all the best as they progress to the next phase of training and education at The Forshaw Group and the various trade colleges within the region.”
