Last week, a small group of business leaders from the Liverpool region joined forces for the Liverpool City Region (LCR) sustainability round table event. Our managing director, Liam Hanlon was privileged to be asked to attend. The event brought together sustainability experts and business leaders to look at the importance of sustainability and work out the regions strategy for working toward Net Zero.
The event host was the CEO and founder of Hyperion Cleantech Group, David Hunt. He talked about how the UK is behind on embedding sustainability practices and 80 % of his work is based outside the UK. The event looked at what changes needed to be made to bring the UK closer to its Net Zero by 2050 and what businesses can do to help this along.
A variety of points and concerns were raised during the general discussion, these included a lack of infrastructure to step up the renewable energy, the skills shortage, examples of best practice around the City region and developing a supplier list of those offering support to businesses reaching Net Zero.
Our managing director, Liam Hanlon said about the event, “it’s a real privilege to be asked along to represent businesses in Liverpool to address the issues related to sustainability and how the region can move local businesses towards Net Zero.”
Back in September 2022, Liam Hanlon also attended the ‘Working together: Helping Britain’s businesses be their best’ Round table event. The first stage of three events.
The event was chaired by Fabian Society’s treasurer, Lord Kennedy, and The Forshaw Group was one of only four businesses invited to attend. The business leaders joined key parliamentary members, and it was a huge honour to be invited.
The round table conversation was based around four current pertinent questions, and were selected as the most topical in the current climate and subjects that members had expressed concern about:
- How can small businesses weather the storm of rising costs, and thrive in a time of economic challenges?
- Which sectors will be most affected, and what trends can we expect to emerge in 2023?
- What role can government, banks and other actors play to help British businesses grow and boost productivity?
- Is there a need for businesses to be provided with direct support to help with rising energy costs?
Here at The Forshaw Group sustainability is important to us. We have already electrified 20% of our fleet and received the green light on our PV solar panel project. This furthers our move towards our sustainable practices, as part of our ongoing commitment to environmental responsibility. We are also looking into services where any excess power can be directed to a community hub, to give back to local people who are maybe struggling with energy financial challenges.
