From swimming, delivering to collecting cans of food, The Forshaw Group is spreading Christmas cheer throughout the local community. As an organisation, TFG strives to be involved in as many community-led projects as possible, aiding our commitment to social value and giving back to the community. The month of December was a culmination of a successful year of fundraising and TFG is excited for what the year 2023 will bring.
Care at Christmas
Inspired by Sefton Council’s 2020 appeal, ‘Show them you care’ campaign, our very own Laura Williams came up with the Care at Christmas campaign which involved delivering hampers to local care homes. A donations box was set up in the staff room for the team to donate any unwanted gifts, donations or paid donations. With the donations from the team, Laura has been able to provide hampers to four local care homes, Appleby Court Nursing Home, Kirkby House Care Home, Croxteth Park Care Home and Abbey Wood Park Nursing Home. The hampers include small gifts, sweets, toiletries, jigsaws, puzzle books, Christmas cards and more, for the residents to enjoy over the festive period.
Laura and a team headed out on 16 December to deliver the hampers and were warmly received at each of the care homes. Laura Williams explained: “Many residents in care homes don’t have family and friends nearby. It’s nice to provide items to help bring a smile to residents at Christmas.”
Food bank delivery
It was looking like a supermarket in our staff room in December. Team member Becci Palin decided to organize a collection for the local food bank. After generous food donations from the team and donations she was able to visit several supermarkets and add to the haul which was then delivered to Knowsley food bank.
Liam Hanlon the managing director of The Forshaw Group said: “I’m proud of the team and everyone’s enthusiasm to help others at Christmas. Becci, and everyone who has helped her, have worked hard sourcing the items and ensuring they were delivered to the right places. It is great to see so much support for our local community.”
Tranmere community Boxing Day dinner
The TFG team spent Boxing Day helping Tranmere Rovers in the community host a White Christmas dinner with food, prizes and tickets to the Tranmere Rovers game and the team kit. It was attended by 61 people who may have been homeless, lonely, vulnerable or in need of help for a Christmas meal. In the lead up to this day, TFG aided the delivery of 150 food hampers and toys to those struggling in the community. With carol singers and a karaoke machine it was a much needed festive fun celebration.
Boxing day dip
Again, on Boxing Day our managing director Liam Hanlon and around 100 other swimmers braved the chilly swimmers at West Kirby to take part in the annual Boxing day dip raising money for Wallasey and Runcorn-based cerebral palsy charity, Stick ‘n’ Step, a charity close to our hearts who we have long supported. The event albeit cold was a huge success raising £320 for the charity.
