It was red carpets all the way last Saturday night (21 January 2023) for The Forshaw Group’s managing director, Liam Hanlon and his ‘Our road to Everest’ film showing and charity raffle. Liam and the tri-4-life team reached the summit of Mount Everest in May 2022 after four years of preparation. Saturday’s event took place at Leasowe Castle Hotel on the Wirral Peninsula and was a chance to showcase the incredible challenge the team undertook.
Over 200 people attended the showing, including the Mayor of Wirral, Councillor Jeff Green. Inside the venue there was a fantastic art exhibition by the talented student, 16-year-old Emily Salked, with 12 paintings featuring the mountains and memories of those who took part. The paintings will eventually be auctioned off after been showcased at several events.
The evening kicked off with a tribute to the charities the night was supporting, which included Wirral based charities The UTS foundation, Team DDB and The Special Mayoral Fund for Maggie’s and Incubabies. The UTS foundation is to help educate, inspire, and change the lives of the most vulnerable, while Team DDB was founded by Danny de Brabander following his diagnosis of terminal bowel cancer in 2019, and it was set up to fundraise for other charities.
The film, which was filmed on Liam’s mobile phone started with a tribute to the early Everest pioneers who lost their lives, including the local legend George Mallory. The team climbed Everest to make the George Mallory centenary challenge dream a reality. The footage showed the incredible views, but also the dangers the climb presented, with sheer ice walls and storms. On 9 May, the team reached the summit and the end of a four-year breathtaking challenge. The night concluded with a question-and-answer session with those who took part.
Liam Hanlon said of the night, “it was a fantastic evening, and we were overwhelmed by the turnout. Thank you for your continued support”.
An impressive £1500 was raised for the charities. Tri-4-life would like to thank those who attended for their continued support and the team look forward to their next challenge the 6633 Ultra-Arctic race this February.
