Collaborative Management Earns Top Marks

There was no time to waste for staff and students at York University when severe sub floor flooding affected more than 30 rooms and public areas on their campus. The team from the Forshaw Group, appointed by insurers Davis French Associates, ensured that the building remained operational throughout the four week contract period.

The ingress followed flood water breaching of low level cable ducting which affected the University IT Suite, laboratories, plus major communal and public areas on the Heslington Campus. Following the extraction of a large volume of water from the sub-floor void, specialist drying techniques were utilised which included injection drying and targeted drying using tented systems.

The main challenge for the team was to co-ordinate a methodical drying programme to release affected areas, in a process which involved more than 100 units of drying equipment.  The main aim –  to achieve minimum disruption and maximum continuity of use for staff and students.

“Vital to the success of this process was the effective programming of work through collaborative management,” says Forshaw Director Liam Hanlon. “This is an essential part of the Forshaw Group service”.

A spokesperson from Davis French Associates said: “We were delighted with the team who were working on this contract.  They were efficient, polite and flexible in working around our staff”.
