The Forshaw Group was delighted to recently host another successful open day, welcoming students and teachers from All Saint’s High School in Kirkby, Liverpool. Held on behalf of the Knowsley Apprenticeship Partnership, and alongside The INS-Pire Academy, 16 students attended the open day, as each had expressed an interest in pursuing apprenticeships in the construction sector.
Designed to attract these young people to learn trade skills, and to help address skill shortages in the industry, the apprentice open day event was a huge success. The students were welcomed by our managing director, Liam Hanlon, who introduced The Forshaw Group, and discussed the importance of the Knowsley Schools Apprenticeship Partnership and National INS-PIRE Academy in supporting young people to engage in skills training, for the future of our industries, businesses and communities.
The students also had the opportunity to hear first-hand from some of our own successful apprentices. Joe Lackey is a second-year plasterer apprentice, and Lee Jones is a first-year joiner apprentice. They talked to the students about their transitions from school to the workplace, and what a ‘day in the life’ of an apprentice is like.
The students then toured The Forshaw Group’s state-of-the-art training facilities, and took part in several practical demonstrations around the skills and services on offer at The Forshaw Group. Our BDMA Technicians Dave Chiocchi and Graham English provided insights into injection drying, target drying, floor drying, DAD blankets and trade bays.
The students were then informed about how to take their next steps towards applying for an apprenticeship, with an upcoming Interview Day and a Practical Team Task to be set. They were then told what to expect following an offer of apprenticeship, including being trade specific, the college course they choose, their exam results, as well as the importance of attendance and punctuality and developing a resilient attitude.
Commenting on the day, Liam Hanlon, managing director at The Forshaw Group, said: “We are very proud to host these open days, for students to learn more about the construction industry and apprentice opportunities available in the sector and community.
“A huge thank you to our team members Dave Chiocchi and Graeme English for their insightful demonstrations to the students, and Joe Lackey and Lee Jones for their help in relating the life of an apprentice.
“We look forward to hosting more successful open days to more students in the future.”
