20 members of The Forshaw Group team faced a sheer drop at last Friday’s teambuilding event. Organised by Ian Wooldridge and his team of former Royal Marines and members of the Royal Marines Association, the abseiling adventure day took place at ‘Frogs Mouth’ Quarry at Runcorn Hill. It also formed part of our ongoing commitment to health and wellbeing, as well as being in support of – and in collaboration with – the Armed Forces Covenant.
At The Forshaw Group we are proud to have made our pledge to the Armed Forces Covenant and hold a gold award. This covenant is a commitment from the nation to acknowledge and understand that those who serve or who have served in the armed forces, and their families, should be treated with fairness and respect in the communities, economy and society they serve. The covenant supports serving personnel, service leavers, veterans, and their families.
We support the Armed Forces Covenant and community by providing new career opportunities, and we have supportive HR policies in place for serving and former members of the Armed Forces community. We will continue to provide the very best apprenticeships, training, and roles for our ex-service men and women, utilising veteran’s existing skills and adapting them for their new careers in the restoration and repair sector, providing a future for the Armed Forces community.
The day was designed as a team building exercise to help build trust and rapport. A number of our apprentices also attended the event as part of the INS-Pire Academy enhancement days. Many who took part faced and overcame their own anxiety and fear of heights.
Team organiser and The Forshaw Group’s senior surveyor, John Calvert said: “The adrenaline rush as you lean backwards and step over the edge was amazing. The team was in great spirits with top leadership, management, and safety from the organisers. We would like to thank everybody involved in the abseiling day and for their contributions to the Royal Marine’s charity.”
