The Forshaw Group is keen to present opportunities to students through work experience. Fifteen-year-old Ivan Ivanov from Prescott School in Knowsley has successfully completed his one-week work experience placement in our finance and accounts team.
Making an impression
Ivan observed and assisted our finance team on a variety of tasks including the day-to-day financial operations. He spent his time with each member of the finance team and was kept busy. His work placement mentor, Laura Williams said, “Ivan made quite an impression and a welcome addition to the team.”
After an enjoyable and worthwhile week, Ivan will now return to school to concentrate on his exams next year before applying for college and apprenticeship roles. He said, “I have enjoyed meeting everyone at The Forshaw Group and have had a very worthwhile and positive experience.”
Investing in apprentices
Here at The Forshaw Group, we support and invest a lot of time in encouraging young people into the industry, particularly through our apprenticeships. It’s an opportunity to raise the profile of the construction industry to young people and show them how to get involved. In January this year, we had 35 students register an interest in joining the team on apprenticeships. Each student submitted their curriculum vitae (CV) and personal statements, with their predicted grades and interests. The students selected from this first stage of the process, were invited to attend The Forshaw Group for interviews and skills testing.
The INS-Pire Academy is designed to help train young people into skilled trades, including building, restoration and renovation, engineering, decorating and loss adjusting. The Forshaw Group is focused on giving back to the community and it is hoped by offering apprenticeship schemes to the local schools, it will provide training opportunities to help address the looming skills shortage within the construction industry.
