The Forshaw Group managing director, Liam Hanlon, attended JJ Smith’s ‘Engineering Your Future’ day last week (Thursday 30 March). The event was designed to give local school children the chance to learn about different businesses and find out about different work experience and apprenticeship opportunities within the engineering and construction sectors.
Throughout the day, six schools from Liverpool’s city region arrived at one-hour intervals to meet the companies in attendance. The Forshaw Group was not only showcasing its own business but was also promoting the Knowsley School’s Partnership and the INS-pire Academy, as part of the construction skills sector offering.
A credit to the schools
Over 100 students attended the event, and Liam Hanlon commented: “All the students were very smart and polite, and they showed a genuine interest in the opportunities on offer. All in all, a real credit to their schools. Congratulations to Rachael Baker and her team at JJ Smith for organising and hosting such a worthwhile event.”
Rachael Baker, managing director at JJ Smith added: “A heartfelt ‘thank you’ to everyone who came along to support our event. To the companies and organisations who came along, thank you so much for giving up your time to support the local young people. And to the staff at the schools, thank you for taking the time to organise the trip out. I really hope that the day provided the students with some food for thought and we were able to drop some pebbles into ponds – who knows where the ripples will end up.”
Any students interested in any of the opportunities they found out about on the day will now make follow up enquires directly with the relevant companies.
